Default Domains vs Subdomains

Hello...

Anybody have any thoughts on domain names versus sub.domains during this 90 Day Challenge or for that matter in general?

I know that a domain can be unique but using a sub.domain can also help in saving a little money.

Before I start I wanted to get an idea of some your thoughts.

Appreciate the input.

Curt

Hey Curt,

You get a discount at Godaddy so a .com domain name costs $7.15. One is $1.99.

I wonder if anyone uses the other types that are cheaper like .org, .info, etc.?

Curt,

Although subdomains are treated as different sites by search engines etc, I'd go ahead and purchase a domain for each; why? well it's all about having a keyword in your domain name and branding that domain to the keyword you're wanting to focus on.

Afterall, you can pick up a domain for around $7.00 at go daddy, so that means you're spending just short of thirty bucks a month on domains and probably 10 bucks on hosting (or you could get it free from plrpro) - this isn't a massive amount, but you 'll make your money back within the 90 days (as long as you work at it)

Walt, I've purchased .org and .net sites if the .com hasn't been available, but .info are closely considered spammy extensions by search engines and google watches them closely (so I've heard), so I stay away from them.

I will consider using another domain instead of subdomains.

However, depending on your hosting account, I will instead use the new domain to point to the subdomain on the hosting account especially if the hosting account allows you a dedicated ip address.

Also, I would not do this until I have enough profit that is coming from the first site to buy the new domain. You need to reinvest your profit to create a virtual web estate. Then before you know it, you'll have a portfolio of performing sites that is giving you profit.

Just my opinion.

Hey everyone thanks for the input. Thanks nasph for the insight on the branding idea; I need to really treat my websites as a business and get the hobbyist mentality out of the way.
