Default Installer Nightmare

I get this error when running installer.

Warning: ftp_mkdir() [function.ftp.mkdir]: Can't create directory: File exists in <home/wwwplr/public_html/wp/user/index.php on line 53

It keeps sending this message.

I have no experience with this. Am I supposed to set up the DB in my copy of wp on my pc using the 4-minute install or what?

Where is the wp installed on the host or my pc?

Do I have to do anything on my pc related to wp?

I added my db name, db user, and db password to the wp-config-sample.php file and saved it as wp-config.php. Was I supposed to do this?

The video assumes a lot and I am totally confused with this process.

No wonder people have trouble with this install. It is a nightmare.

I have already wasted 2 days on this fiasco and I am mighty pissed off.

Here's the rest of the nightmare.

Installer says:

"Upload Complete!

Configuration File Modified.
SQL File Modified.

Header Image Uploaded successfully.

Databse Installation Details:

WordPress can't select database. We were able to connect to the database server(which means your username and passord is okay) but not able to select the alonbro_Badbreath DB.

In case any error is shown up here, please contact the administrator at uploaderr@theimalliance.com

Blog installation complete."

Perhaps my problem is the midPhase host. I will contact them to see why I cannot connect to the database.

Oh, this is very painful.

So I asked midPhase(host) about it and they want to look at my WordPress admin panel.

Hah!

How do I get to that if the install didn't work?

Default hello

Hello,
Did you go in and set up the sql database and put the right information in the install? Remember there can't be a space after the sql db name or user. Make sure of that. Thats what it sounds like to me.
Steve

No, Steve, there is no space at the end of the db name, but thanks for your help - I read all your posts and have learned a lot.

I think the problem may be at midPhase, the host I use. I have had many problems there, some of them owing to my technical ignorance in ftp, domains, hosting, wp, etc.

I'll get it done eventually, but this is a @#$%^ pain in the you know what.
