Default Directory submissions - is there a right way?

I plan to pay someone to manually submit my sites to directories and I have a couple of questions about this:

1) Do I need to be concerned about my sites being submitted to say 450 directories over a short space of time e.g. 3-5 days, or is it better to spread out the submissions over a longer period of time?

2) Did you submit your sites with the adsense ads in place from day 1 or did you put them onto the sites once they had been submitted? Does it make any difference?

Thanks
Jakki

I think spaced submission is the best option..since then links can continue to come slowly...like 50 per day or so.

I haven't gone through the PLAN yet completely but I believe that its the way to go.

Also I believe that sites submitted with out adsense have a far more acceptance rate than the ones which have adsense on them.

Spaced Submission is most definitely the right way. Specifically a 3-4 week period where the approvals continue to trickle over the next 2-5 months.

When you do directory submissions, your trying to do two things.

1. Using a backlink from a directory to get your site indexed as soon as possible.
2. Increasing your backlinks to increase your ranking in the results pages.

I usually submit about 50 the first day and then 20 or so every other day for the next month or so.

I only submit to free directories and use a tool that I developed myself for this purpose - and to sell. See my signature!

Definitely try to submit prior to turning on your adsense, you're not really going to lose out on much $ because you won't have any traffic for a few weeks unless you are paying for it. So try to delay it as long as possible.

Tony

There is a simple setting in the Adsense Deluxe plugin management screen (under options menu) that allows you to unclick the checkboxes for displaying the adblocks. I tested it and it works fine.

As soon as you are ready to monetize, just recheck the boxes and they appear.

Thanks for that Habelow.

I was going to do something a little more complicated but didnt even realise that setting.

I'll use that instead for the video.

Cheers

Thanks belgian! The adsense deluxe plugin seems to be one of the most powerful and configurable plugins we have. Here is all the things it does (copied right form the adsense deluxe homepage)

Features:

* Use simple HTML comments for embedding AdSense or Yahoo! Publisher Network ads in a WordPress post
* Choose from any number of ad styles and format on a post-by-post basis
* Globally change ad styles
* Selectively disable display of individual ad styles or all ads
* Integrated AdSense Preview tool (a sandbox) for seeing what ads will appear on a given page. (Stand-alone AdSense SandBox Tool also available)
* All settings configured through WordPress Options interface (no knowledge of plugins or PHP required)
* Easily test different ad formats and color styles across (all, or) a range of blog posts.
* (Optionally) Apply CSS formatting to the AdSense code.
* Does not display live ads when editing a page, instead placeholders are shown.
* Ads are EXCLUDED from RSS feeds — even if you have full-text feeds enabled. (new in v0.3)
* Preview your ad blocks from the AdSense-Deluxe options page (in case you forget what the ad style looks like), and ads can be clicked without penalty since they use a test account.
* Support for wp-tiger-admin plugin’s CSS in post/page editor QuickTags

AdSense-Deluxe Advantages and Uses

* Switching all AdSense ads to a new color scheme across the entire site
* Trying out image ads instead of textual ads
* Testing alternate AdSense formats
* Disabling a class of AdSense ads, or even all ads
* Including common formatting for AdSense ad blocks (less typing)
* Testing alternate ad placements for higher click-thru rates
* Controlling ads within your WP template files.
