Default Any tips on choosing a website name?

Anyone suggest some tips on choosing a website name?

In the past I've tried to get a website with the keywords as the first part of the name. Is this still a valid approach? Or by using a Wordpress blog is this not really required?

Colin

Talking

Hi,

As long as you include the kw, it doesnt matter what you call it. Could be kwxbliwzz.com

lol well, I tend to disagree a little there

Although I always look for a keyword in the domain url. I also always try and get a brandable domain too that I can use later or sell if I want too.

Remember, multiple uses for a domain.

Regards
Marc

Hi,

I agree with Marc on this one. Always think of more things you can do with your domain. Also keep in mind that you want people to remember the name of your domain. wxskwibizz.com would be harder to remember then bizz-as-usual.com just as an example.

To give an example of a few sites we do for 90DC Brewing Your Own or Online Game Survival maybe they are long but it reads like a natural sentence

You don't want to know the long urls people in the Netherlands use but we do remember them just because it reads like a natural thing. And you want the name to stick in peoples minds

Michel

Cool

Hello,

Well, say you want a name and its taken, eg, skincare.com.

You could sill include your kw skincare, but the end could be skincareq and that would retain the kw. I admit its not very redable, but the kw is in there.

Hi,

Yes, but personalskincare.com would be better.

Talking of domain names, we just had a lesson in be quick or lose, 2 day ago we thought up new domain names for the next 4 sites. For some reason we couldn't login to our moniker account. All was resolved today but guess what, 2 of the 4 names were taken. And believe me they were nice names we spend a couple of hours thinking about. So that teaches us

SeeYa,
Michel

Hi,

Did you try them out on Domain bot?

Could someone be scrapeing the names?

Hi CobWab,

No don't think it has anything to do with hijaking or scraping. We learned that one the hard way as well. A few months back my GF was searching for a nice domain name so I could help registering it with moniker that evening. Only to find out that Network Solutions, where she did the search, hijacked the domain. So we couldn't register it with our registrar. Had to wait for 5 days before they released it again just before the grace period would pass. Just a few days before that, the hijacking news about network solutions had hit the webstreets so to speak. We missed that news.

These were names in competitive niches where almost all the good names are already taken. We already have new names and domains now so no real harm done, just was a bit of a bummer.

Now network solutions have a notice on their site stating that they do the hijacking to keep front runners out, everything to keep ICANN on the wrong food I guess.

Thnx,
Michel
