| So for us newbies, I have a question about hosting and account options. When should we consider upgrading our types of memberships with our hosting companies? I would like to know, as we learn to monitor our site stats, how we know when we will blow up our system and crash the host servers as we get more and more traffic. I ask this since we need to know when we should upgrade so we don't have down time. I use Host Gator and 1&1 (not recommended as they don't have up to date MySql, don't use Fantastio, nor do they use cPanel) but I imagine most host companies have similar packages and sizes so I just would like to know how the numbers correspond to the bandwidth allowed for our packages purchased. So when one of us has 1k people clicking through how much bandwidth (or other web portal criteria) does that correspond with? What kind of site do we need when we are getting 5k, or 100k people coming (one would expect at that point we can afford our own servers (ISP) Correct?).. How does amount of pages correspond to this bandwidth in relation to click throughs as well: So if I have a 50 page site but a few 100 click throughs a day is that easier on the system than an 18 page site that has 5k clicking through each day? I guess I am asking how much space does a page take up versus what active click through traffic does to those numbers. Being new to this, I am in the dark here. These are mysteries that I have not seen in most of what I read, so some instruction on the NUMBERS would be helpful. Thanks for any input on this topic.

| Something odd here. I put this post up on April 7,2008 but the post time stamp says January 2008. I know that Australia is on a different time zone but golly that puts you all on a different planet all together... (ps I have updated my profile to correctly reflect the time zone...so do not understand this)

| Rebecca, I also use HostGator and was just talking to them yesterday about hosting options for those of us working the 90 Day Challenge. Currently I use the "swamp" Hosting plan which offers 1,000GB of storage, UNLIMITED bandwith and unlimited domain names and SQL databases for $13 per month. I was asking HostGator about the webhosting option vs. a reseller plan. If you check the specs, the hosting plans give much more disk space and bandwidth than any of the reseller plans and seems like a better deal for the money. The HostGator sales rep agreed with me and said the reseller plans are best for those people who want to charge money for reselling hosting. They, HostGator, agreed with me that the hosting plans fit my particular needs (lots of domains, lots of SQL databases and HOPEFULLY, lots of traffic) better than the reseller plans. Unless I am really missing something, the hosting plan seems to be the best fit! Thanks, Wayne |
