Smile Here's what happened when I moved too fast!

This happened to me twice and it wasn't until today that I figured out what the deal was. I put up my first site using the WP installer and got it to finally work after going over the camtasia (bad sound quality and all) several times until I figured out that the problem was the trailing / in the blog address.

Problem solved. It's always the little things. After that, put up my second site without a hiccup. Figured I've got the WP installer knocked. Not so fast!

Last night I picked up a new domain name, repointed the nameserver to hostmonster and off I went.....BOOOM.....couldn't get it to happen. Went over every little detail and then it finally hit me about 3AM......I didn't give the domain name enough time to propagate through the net. Went back at it this morning and the WP installer put the site up like a champ.

So there's my hint for the day if you ever tried to install using WP installer to quickly after you pointed your domain. It won't work if it's not propogated.

Here's something else I read about and it actually works! If you want to see your link backs in google (not sure if this works with msn but seemed to work when I tried it with yahoo) type in the google search box:

link: www.yourdomainname.com * Domain Name Parking Page
Thats just supposed to read - link:yourdomainaddress prefaced with http etc. but this post makes it come out as it does above.

It will list all the sites that link back to you, but I think just the ones that are spidered through google.....someone please correct me if that's not how that works.

Here's one more thing I want to add to this post......maybe this is a fluke.....please let me know if this is the case but this is the first site I waited to propigate before putting up and I'm not seeing ANY wedding invitation or off topic adsense ads. Normally, when the sites first go up the adsense ads are on target and then within a few minutes they revert to the wedding invitations and stayed that way for at least 4 days.
Does anyone think this is because of waiting for the name to propogate prior to posting? Curious to know.

Nice to be back and regards to all and hope you don't mind a tip from a newest of newbies!

David

Default Glad to hear you got it going

Hello,
Attention to detail for the installer is critical. There is going to be a new version coming out that is going to take away all of these problems and will test your data to make sure that it is correct, before it ever lets you click the install button. Should be really nice. Now dont ask me when, I am not sure but soon.
As far as some of your question, yes that is right for google and indexing. The second, I personally dont believe that waiting for the prop changed anything. Was the wedding button on the site?? Doesn't matter, as long as it works but I don't think that waiting did anything other than make your site appear.
Thanks for the link,
Steve

The wedding link was on the site when I uploaded then I took it off once it uploaded which is how I've done it for the other sites. Maybe just a stroke of good fortune or maybe it will kick back to the wedding invite ads again then back to the topic.

Only time will tell I guess.....thanks for the info Steve

Best,
David

Hey David,

Some good tips there, when I redo the training (with better sound quality and the new installer) I will be sure to mention about dns propogation.

Thanks
Marc

Hi,

When we do the installer on the new sites. As soon as the install is done we remove the wedding button AND post the first of the 5 articles. That makes sure that the right ads appear on the sites. The remaining 4 articles we post on the day the schedules tells us to.

Hope this helps you

Michel
