Smile Automating Ebook Download when setting up your paypal button

What you'll need to do (this is the easiest way to do it).

Open up your thankyou.html page and add in your thankyou text and your download link on that page as well.

Your download link will be the URL of where you have uploaded the final pdf of your book to.
e.g. if i upload the book named master-your-memory.pdf to my public_html folder the download link will be http://www.yourdomainnamehere.com/ma...our-memory.pdf

I'd then recommend renaming the thankyou.html page to something cryptic (a combination of letters and numbers e.g. thankyou1234dfs5sdf45.html ) so that people can't guess it. Remember to never link to the thankyou page from anywhere but the paypal system.

Once that's done re-upload it to your server in your public_html folder, then go and login to your paypal account.

Follow the steps in the video to make the button but at the bottom of the page click on "Add more Options" instead of "create button now"

On this page you will see "Customise your donor's experience" and then under this you'll see the "successful payment URL:" change this option to the new thankyou page URL that you just created and then click on the "create button" link at the bottom.
The thankyou page URL you enter will be something like this e.g. http://www.yourdomainnamehere.com/th...dfs5sdf45.html

Now that this is set once people have paid for the ebook they will be automatically transfered to your thankyou/download page.

If you have any other problems with it please let me know.

Cheers, ToNy!

There's trouble with not using something like DL Guard to protect your downloads, and simply using a cryptic file name.

If (when) Google finds your download page, it indexes it, and you could find many people downloading your product for free.

You should either put your download page in a subfolder and block the robots from indexing the folder with your robots.txt file, or use something like DL Guard.

Hi Dewald,

Your very correct but for those who don't want to pay for DL Guard here's what i'd recommend to make sure it never get's indexed into the search engines.

1. Never link to the thankyou page anywhere exept through that paypal system. This means the robots won't be able to reach the page.

2. If it's for the current two books that are up (memory and home refinanceing Oct 2007), add this code into the thankyou page between the <head> and </head> tags. <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> This code will stop the robots from indexing the page.

(All future ebooks will be provided with this code already in the thankyou.html file)

Cheers, ToNy!

Marc,

<meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow"> hasn't been included in the smoking thankyou.html file.

Default Also need to protect the PDFs

Unless there is already something built in to the system, I'd also suggest protecting the folders containing the PDFs via a robots.txt file otherwise the PDFs themselves may get indexed by the search engines etc allowing joe public, either intentionally or unintentionally, to directly access and download them free of charge.

Regards
Swisss

Default How do you stop free downloads

Hi all

The above info is great just what I needed, but one question still remains how do you stop someone when they pay and download your product from bookmarking the page and returning for free downloads.

Thanks
Dave

Take a look at eDOWNLOADcart Secure software download shopping cart script - eDOWNLOADcart Secure digital download shopping cart script

Encrypted download links - which expire after x days / x downloads ... has its own affiliate system built in and email manager.

Copy / Paste buy button code onto any webpage ...even on different domains / servers.

Unlimited products.

I have a similar question. I am a programmer and was considering having the system deliver the PDF as an email attachment. Is that a good idea, or should I instead provide a link for the download.
