Default Amazon ECS Subscription ID

G'day ,

I have looked in the Associates Center at Amazon and found nothing.

Can someone point me in the right direction to obtain this ID.

Thanks and Cheers ,

Norman H

Hi Norman

The you can just use the default one provided I believe. The most important id is your associate id which you have to update after you install your blog.

cheers

G'day Lesley ,

Thank you for your prompt post in reply -- much appreciated.

I didn't have to change my Associate ID as I entered it into the installer details.

I saw that it says you can leave the default ID but I wasn't sure what part it played in the scheme of things.

Cheers ,

Norman H

Default Get the ID from here...

The ID must have changed its name recently - its now called an Amazon "Access Key ID".

It allows you to pull data from Amazon's web site, and is needed for the WP-Amazon plugin.

You get the ID by creating an account at http://aws.amazon.com

More info on the ID is provided at:

http://aws-portal.amazon.com/gp/aws/...ion=access-key

WARNING: There's a whole lot of "techno developer - type stuff" on that site so just get your ID and get out quick!

Hope this helps.

Ben

Okay, hopefully I didn't do a big no-no....

The plugin instructions clearly stated you could use the 'default id' if you didn't have your own... but there was no indication of what this 'default id' would be!

I looked quickly at the Amazon site, and then at the site of the guy who developed the plug-in... and here's what I came up with:

1) this key is intended for DEVELOPERS, not end users; developers use it to enable functionality for their programs/plug-ins.
2) if you download the plug-in DIRECTLY from the author's site, it includes the default value.
3) the author does explicitly give permission to use his 'OEM' code
4) so I downloaded the package from the author's website, extracted his code, and used it for my sites.

If this seems OK/legal/ethical to the Big Guys, why not just post the correct 'default' code here in the forum, or even include it in the instructions in the video or the guide? (Actually, if you look REALLY close at the video, it looks like they are using the author's default code when they configure it.)

Better yet I'll include his default code into the install so you dont have to enter one in.

That would be better, since it is provided with Amazon plugin, and that may even explain a few errors with people not being able to use the amazon plugin properly.

I'll check it out and issue an update.

Thanks
Marc
