Default Format of permalinks - why include the post id?

Hi again,

I am wondering what if any advantage there is to having the post ID showing up at the end of the permalink, eg, my-post-slug-10?

In some of my previous sites, I have used the permalink structure of
/%category%/%postname%.html,
which results in something like my-post-slug.html, which someone once told me makes the site like look more like a static site to visitors with paranoid tendencies...

To me, the post ID number just looks strange, but I am willing to listen to the Big Guys and follow your lead.

Permalinks are a thing of argument...personally I always go /%category%/%postname/

but many people who are WP advocates use the post ID and Postname...I just like the look of the category in the URL and it gives a virtual theme'd site.

It's there just in case you have two articles with the same title.

Robert, WP will not allow two posts with the same slug (post title) if that happens it will automagicly add a numeric suffix to the slug to make it unique

I Know but thats what i was told by Marc.

You can remove the post id if you like but i don't think it will make much differance.

If you don't want the post ID then change the custom structure from

/%category%/%postname%-%post_id%/

to

/%category%/%postname%/

and update

no more post IDs

if you don't want the category then take that out too

/%postname%/

update

and you will just have the name of your post in the URL

It is easy because Marc has the files writeable so we don't have to do the htaccess thing

Thanks Marc.
