Default Google Analytics

I want to track clicks on affiliate links in my WP blog and I understand it can be done with Google analytics and some WP plug-ins like the Ultimate Analytics Plugin.

Is this the best way to track these clicks and can anyone recommend a plug-in?

Thanks!

You can set up Google Analytics in WordPress by going into backend of WP and go Options > Google Analytics.

One way you could do this is set up goals in Google Analytics backend. However, there must be better ways to do this. Not sure, would be good to hear from someone who has a working system in place for advice.

There are a few plugins that will manage affiliate links for you that I use. One such plugin is WP Affiliate Pro. It will track the click through's on links etc.

The only other way to track through analytics would be to create a seperate .php file that is a re-direct to your affiliate link.

And link to that when you speak about the affiliate product.

Then add that file location into google analytics as a goal.

Otherwise you will not be able to track when someone clicks off your site. But this way they click on that file first, then get re-directed, so you can track the clicks to that file, which is in turn the clicks to your affiliate program.

Regards
Marc
