Default WP Installer problem

Hi all,

Just joined the 90 DC and although I'm fairly conversant in basic web stuff (html, ftp, scripts etc) I've hit a nasty roadblock right at the beginning of the journey.

I've followed all the written / video instructions up to the point of getting my first site up. When I use the WP installer, I enter my ftp site, username and password (all of which work fine elsewhere, in ftp clients etc) and immediately get a 406 error:

Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /wp23/user/ajaxVFS.php could not be found on this server.

As far as I can tell, I can't do anything else in the process until the installer can communicate with my ftp server, so I'm totally stuck.

Don't know if this could be an issue, but the hosting service I'm using at the moment is 1&1. I've used them for all kinds of stuff for a couple of years and never had any problem.

Am I just missing something really obvious? I've double-and triple-checked everything I can think of to no avail.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated, since I don't want to get behind right at the beginning of the challenge.

Thanks much,
Brad

Hi Brad,

I don't think I can help I'm afraid but I can say that I am having problems too.

The error I get is slightly different:

Warning: ftp_connect() [function.ftp-connect]: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /home/wwwplr/public_html/wp23/user/VFS/ftp.php on line 864

Like you, I can ftp fine with an ftp program so I've no idea what I'm doing wrong. Very frustrated!

Did you ever get yours fixed?

Keith

Default Thanks for the input - Hostgator solves the problem

Hi Keith, Mario,

Thanks for the input. It's always great to know that people are willing to help, or even just commiserate!

Turned out it really was something about 1&1's system. I found a deal on opening a new acct with hostgator, so tried that and everything worked perfectly.

Thanks again,
Brad

Default WP installer/1 and 1 host

I have a 1 and 1 hosted account and cannot get the WP installer to work. Is there really a problem with the compatability of the PLRPro WP installer and Non-hostgator accounts? Sent in a trouble ticket about 5 days ago and no response yet. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
