Default Another User Having Issues with WP Installer

I thought I would sail through this step. HaHa. I have made several attempts with no luck. I have read a lot of the forum posts and haven't found an answer. Perhaps I overlooked one. I have watched the video several times and carefully filled the installer form. I have used Firefox.

I am using addon domains. Perhaps it's an issue of entering the URL in the correct manner. My primary account is http://www.discountdesignerrugs.com and the addon is www.weddinggiftboutique.com

1st Attempt

I used http://www.discountdesignerrugs.com/...ggiftboutique/ in the URL field

After running the installer there were multiple files loaded in my hosting account folder weddinggiftboutique as viewed in ftp.

Installer screen shows:

"Upload complete.... Blog Installation Complete."
Image of site shows parked domain. Not the image on video showing "MySQL Data Importing to Server"

I entered www.weddinggiftboutique.com in browser: Get message: "It doesn't look like you've installed WP yet. Try running install.php."

I clicked on install.php and followed directions as shown below.
--------------------------

First Step
Before we begin we need a little bit of information. Don't worry, you can always change these later.

Weblog title:
Your e-mail:

Double-check that email address before continuing.

WordPress, personal publishing platform.

---------------------------------------------

Second Step
Now we’re going to create the database tables and fill them with some default data.

Finished!

Now you can log in with the username "admin" and password "c08bba".

Note that password carefully! It is a random password that was generated just for you. If you lose it, you will have to delete the tables from the database yourself, and re-install WordPress. So to review:

Username
admin
Password
c08bba
Login address
wp-login.php
Were you expecting more steps? Sorry to disappoint. All done!

WordPress, personal publishing platform

--------------------------

I clicked on wp-login.php and clicked on "View Blog" and got a blank screen

++++++++++++++++++++

2nd Attempt

I deleted files from weddinggiftboutique folder.

I used http://www.weddinggiftboutique.com/ as URL

Installer shows:

"Connecting to server via FTP
Uploading the directory to the server ftp.discountdesignerrugs.com:

Upload Complete!!

Configuration File modified.
SQL File modified.

Header image uploaded successfully.

Databse Installation Details:

In case any error is shown up here, Please contact the administrator at uploaderr@theimalliance.com

Blog installation complete"

-----------------

There is no image of site on installer.

Browsing to http://www.weddinggiftboutique.com/ shows blank page.

This time there are no files to be found in weddinggiftsboutique folder viewed in ftp. Where did the files load?

++++++++++++++++++++

3rd Attempt

I used another addon domain www.durablemetalroofs.com

Installer screen shows:

"Upload complete.... Blog Installation Complete."
Image of site shows parked domain. Not the image on video showing "MySQL Data Importing to Server"

I entered www.durablemetalroofs.com in browser: Get message: "It doesn't look like you've installed WP yet. Try running install.php."

I clicked on install.php and followed directions

I clicked on wp-login.php and clicked on "View Blog" and got a blank screen.

Again, there are no files to be found in durablemetalroofs folder viewed in ftp. Where did the files load?????

Hi Peg,

Try deleting your database and starting over.

Firstly if you are using an addon domain the ftp is

ftp.youraddondomain.com

the directory should be
select public_html and then

youraddondomain

the Blog URL will be

http://www.youraddondomain.com/blog/

but before you start any of that, try using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox

I was getting the no database message using Firefox, tried deleting etc several times, checked all spaces still the same so switched to IE and installed first time.

Don't know if Marc has made any adjustments recently but a few day ago I installed using FF straight off.

Talk about a female being fickle, these software programs would leave us for dead

Thanks very much for the advice, Carmel.

I still haven't gotten it to work though.

I implemented your advice. I deleted the databases. Afterwards I discovered I had wp files in my domain folders that had not been there before. Some sort of delay. Not sure what that means. But since I had already deleted the database, I deleted all of the wp files as well so I could start over.

I used IE instead of FF although I don't think that made a difference. I had never received a "no database" message.

I used ftp.weddinggiftboutique.com

I installed to public_html as a root install. I did not use a folder named "blog" so I entered the URL as http://www.weddinggiftboutique.com

The "blog" folder isn't necessary, is it?

When I ran the install I received the same "reassuring" messages such as "Upload complete.... Blog Installation Complete."

I also got the message again "It doesn't look like you've installed WP yet. Try running install.php." There was also no image showing.

I checked in ftp and there were no files. This time I let it sit for about half an hour. When I came back the wp files were there. However, when entering the URL I still got the message "It doesn't look like you've installed WP yet. Try running install.php." I went through that sequence again with the same result. Clicking on "view site" showed a blank window.

Any further suggestions, Carmel?

Anyone else have ideas? Marc?

Hi Peg,

I am sure if you are using an addon domain then the directory needs to be

public_html/addon domain

In the template at the directory installation, you should be able to select both by clicking on public_html, not the radio button though, the words, and then you should see your addon domain folder then check the radio button for that. and in the greyed out area you should see public_html/addon domain

and the Blog URL I've tired both ways and it works if you use

http://www.addondomain.com/blog/
with the trailing slashes.

you don't need to set up a folder named blog

By installing into the root directory the WP site will not be installed in your addondomain, it will be in your main domain. and the Blog URL will not be for your main domain but your addon domain, they won't match, you have to match them up.

Hope that makes sense.

PS sorry the message I was getting is the same as you "Doesn't look like you have installed WP yet etc". When I went over to IE it installed first go.

Thanks again, Carmel.

I guess I didn't describe very well where I had installed. I did click on public_html and selected the radio button for the weddinggiftboutique folder. So the greyed out field "Desired Directory of installation" showed public_html/weddinggiftboutique.

What I was calling a root install was selecting the weddinggiftboutique folder rather than creating and selecting a blog folder inside the weddinggiftboutique folder. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

So I am still stuck were I was.

Okay I presume this is an addon domain correct?

and I will presume that discountdesignerrugs.com is your main account

So here are the exact details that will work, providing you have your sql database and user added okay, I would reccomend clearing files from the addon domain.

ftp host name: ftp.discountdesignerrugs.com
ftp user: discount-username
ftp pass: discount-pass
Desired Directory Of Installation: /public_html/weddinggiftboutique/

Host Name: localhost
Database: yourdatabasename
databaseuser: your database user
Databasepassword: yourpassword

Blog URL: http://www.weddinggiftboutique.com

The rest doesnt matter for the install, its just to configure your blog.

Try that and see how you go, if it doesnt work, and you are on hostgator or PLRPro hosting, then it is something small, and I can check that out.

Clicking on and following the install.php link if it doesnt work the first time will not do the proper install.

Thanks
Marc

Thanks for the reply Marc.

As near as I could tell, your instructions are what I used on my second attempt.

To be sure, I did what you said. I first deleted the new files from the weddinggiftboutique folder. The only items remaining are the cgi-bin folder and a .ftpquota file (Whatever that is. It is also in my other addon folders).

I also deleted and readded the database and user as before. Was that necessary?

After running the installer I received the same message:

"It doesn't look like you've installed WP yet. Try running install.php."

What should I try next?

Peggy

Default Which browser are you using?

Hello,

I have had the same problems as you are describing...

If you are not using internet explorer, I would try that....

Do as you did before, delete everything and start over using the IE for the install. When I did this I had zero problems. I know there was another post on this somewhere too.

Hope this get you what you want,
Steve
