Default Channels and other basic/important points

Due to family problems I am just starting the challenge today. I have been reading all the forums and watching the videos. I am new to WP so I hope to clear up some things today so I can get started.

1. I have never used custom channels for adsense, only URL channels. Google says that you set up a channel for each ad block but the installer only had space for one channel. What do I do about that?

2. I do not have Amazon, don't even know what it is. Do I just leave it blank or is it something I should have?

3. Does the installer install the WP program on my account or does it install the blog on the WP program after I have installed it, or does it do both at once? Sorry but it seems confusing to a newbie.

4. I joined PLR hosting in November but never used it. I can't access the hosting account now. I tried my domain/cpanel and my username and password don't work and the help link doesn't work. I have sent a support but I wondered if anyone knew anything that could be stopping me?

Hoping that I can catch up to you all.

Thanks for the help in advance

Brenda

Didn't get a reply so decided to go ahead. My first attempt failed and second also. I think the second didn't work because I failed to delete everything. I have deleted the database and user and have re-entered that. I went to fantastico to look for wp installations but it does not show any so I can't delete it. But then I go to the installer to try again it shows all the wp files in the public folder. Do I go into file manage and delete all file and folders starting with wp? Seems there should be an easier way to do this.

Thanks
Brenda

Hey Brenda,

It wont show in fantastico because it doesnt use fantastico to do the install.

To "clean up" you need to delete the database you used and re-set that up.

And you dont need to delete the files, it will show lots of errors because you didnt delete the files, but they wont stop the installation.

The biggest issue is making sure you get database details correct, and the base site url.

Let me know how you go.

Thanks
Marc

Hi Marc,
I sent you a pm also as I have delete the database several times, I have checked for spaces everywhere, my url is entered as http://www.mydomain.com/ as it is a root install. I read that we should use the trailing slash. I have added the user to the database. Same error message every time.

I even went and deleted all the wp files just in case and tried again but nothing. I am really stuck on this and can't move forward. I know the installer works great (many people have succeeded) but I don't know what else to do. I am using plrpro hosting. Can you take a look and see what is wrong? I must be missing something.

Thanks

Brenda

P.S. I also added a domain and transfereed a parked domain to it for my second site. Could this be interferring with it? I'm clutching at straws here!

I thought I would post these again as they never got answered in your last post, I think my problems installing took priority in your post (thank you for that) but I still am confused about these few simple points.

Hope you don't mind having two posts to respond to.

Thanks Brenda

1. Once you have setup your blog you can use the adsense deluxe plugin that is installed to change the channel numbers for each ad block if you like.

2.You don't have to do Amazon posts but there is really no reason not too. You can signup and get the ID number here : Clicky

3.The installer will do everything that is needed to get the blog up and running. All you need to do and make a SQL database for it to use but if you watch the videos it will explain exactly what to do and how to do it.

So which channel ID is it that people are putting in the installer?

I know the installer works but when you are totally new to something you don't know what to look for (as the saying goes - you don't know what you don't know) Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Some one mentioned deleting tables but I have no idea where to find them.

Thanks
Brenda

Hi Brenda

I got confused by the whole deleting tables thing as well. What you actually need to do is "drop" them I think.

In cpanel go into mysql. At the bottom you will see "php my admin". Click on that and then choose the database in question from the drop down list on the left. Then is the main panel delete all the tables listed by clicking on the red cross.

I think that's how you do it. I'm writing from memory and I've only done it twice.

Let us know how you get on.

Gillian

Gillian, Thanks for trying to help. I went to the php my admin and it says there are no tables. I have pm'ed Marc and asked here for help but I have not been able to get anyhelp yet. I have watched the video over and over and checked all my spaces, URLs, and database details until I want to scream!!!.

I know Robert said (in response to someone else)that the reason someone did not get help was that the answer was always the same; basically inputting error. I know that is the case but what do I do when I can't see what that error might be.

I am now on day 6 and have no blogs started because I can't get one up. I see some people have given up and installed them manually but if I could do that I wouldn't need the installer!

Is there anyone out there that has the secrets to how to solve this particular error message?

Not Found
The requested URL /bigdump.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Hopefully a solution that does not include changing hosting plans as someone suggested - I am with PLRpro hosting.

Thanks
Brenda

Hi Brenda,

I know this is so frustrating when you can't seem to see what you're doing that is causing the problems.

In one of your earlier posts you said you had entered the URL for the blog as http://www.mydomain.com As you are installing in the root directory try entering this for the Blog URL http://www.mydomain.com/blog/

Have another go but first delete the database, don't worry about the files/tables etc, just the database. then set up another MySQL database, I'd use all new names and passwords, (don't ask why, it's the Irish in me)

The areas I found that caused my problems were the ftp, the blog url and spaces that shouldn't have been there.

Did you get your Adsense Channel ID sorted okay? This thread on the PLRPro forum should ehlp.

If you enter your Adsense and Amazon ID information into the installer, then you don't need to do anything else as far as that goes.

HTH
