Default Installer Problem

Hi everyone,

I have attempted my first blog install by putting it on an existing domain, (just in case I screwed up!) and creating a folder within the public.html folder as ‘Blog’. I ran through the whole install procedure whilst running the Installer video in tandem, and double checked my input data before pressing the install button.

On completion, the screen read as follows:

“Connecting to server via FTP
Uploading the directory to the server ftp.my domain.com:

Upload Complete!!

Configuration File modified.
SQL File modified.

Header image uploaded successfully.

Databse Installation Details:

ERROR 404 - PAGE NOT FOUND
Oops! Looks like the page you're looking for was moved or never existed.
Make sure you typed the correct URL or followed a valid link.”

Going back into my Cpanel, this message opened in a separate screen:

“It doesn't look like you've installed WP yet. Try running install.php.”

The only thing that was different to the video was that when I created a new folder inside the public html folder a cgi bin folder, I think it was, also showed as being in the newly created folder.

The wp-admin files and so on are there.

I’d appreciate your advice as to how I should proceed. If I am to delete the blog folder to start again what is the position regarding the MySQL set up I created? Am I supposed to delete that in some way to start over again?

I’m not that experienced on working within Cpanel, but I intend to crack this. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Rigour

Hi Rigour,

I'm no expert either but I have had this problem and found that you will need to delete all WP files from your directory plus your Mysql database.

A fresh start worked every time I ran into problems.

All the best.
