Default MySql Error

Hello,

This is my second day trying to install the blog. I have tried installing it in the root directory as well as in subfolders, but I keep getting the same error. I have also tried different domains, but the same thing happens. Here is the message I keep getting. I don't know what to do:

Error at the line 28: ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=2 ;

Query: CREATE TABLE `wp_categories` (
`cat_ID` bigint(20) NOT NULL auto_increment,
`cat_name` varchar(55) NOT NULL default '',
`category_nicename` varchar(200) NOT NULL default '',
`category_description` longtext NOT NULL,
`category_parent` bigint(20) NOT NULL default '0',
`category_count` bigint(20) NOT NULL default '0',
PRIMARY KEY (`cat_ID`),
KEY `category_nicename` (`category_nicename`)
) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=2 ;

MySQL: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=2' at line 10

Default MySql Error Continued

Hello,

I got in touch with my host company (hostgator.com) to see if they could help me with the sql errors I was getting and this was their final response:

Hello,
You will need to contact the authors of this installer, as it does not appear to be using proper sql syntax.

Thank you,
Robin H, System Administrator
Hostgator.com

Please help me. I have been trying for 2 days and I am getting very frustrated.

Thanks,

Rosa O'Brocki

hey rosa

I have successfully installed 2 blogs using the installer on my hostgator account. Maybe you can check with hostgator which version of mysql is the server that you are on having. Then feedback to marc and daniel.

Otherwise, to quickly get started, do you know you can request for free hosting with plrpro as well? You can get started with that first so that you won't be so frustrated!

cheers
Lesley

I've been getting the same error when I try to install to an addon domain
with /public_html/myaddondomain.com/blog or /public_html/myaddondomain.com/blog/

and when I try /public_html/myaddondomain
or
/public_html/myaddondomain/

I get the following

Upload Complete!!

Configuration File modified.
SQL File modified.

Header image uploaded successfully.

Databse Installation Details:
It doesn't look like you've installed WP yet. Try running install.php.

the Blog URL is http://www.myaddondomain.com/blog/

I did install to a normal domain yesterday but this has me stumped.
when I check my FTP, the blog files are there but when I try thr URL I get the same message as it not being installed.

Yesterday was on the PLRPro hosting, today is with my other hosting, I have done several manual installations of Wordpress with this service.

Any ideas?

You guys should check the actual data base to see if anything has be entered. If not then it's most likley a username and password problem.

Hi Robert,

I've deleted and added the MySQL database several times and checked the username and password, They are right in the config.php when I check that in the ftp client.

Now how do I check the actual database?

PS I'm about to watch the Aust V England Twenty20 Cricket but will be back straight after that. need a brain de-fuzzing

Yeah have a look in the actual data base and see if there is anything in there. If it is completely empty then you know it cannot access it at all, if there is something in there then you know it can access it and that it is something else that is the problem.

I'm watching the 20-20 ask I type and like all good 20-20 it won’t last long

Hi Robert,

Just checked the database and there is nothing in it, big zippo, zilch so I've emailed the hosting service to see what's up. Hopefully they can throw some light on it.

Thanks Robert

Cheers
Carmel

PS 20 20 cricket is good fun, even better when we win, some new talent coming through too.

I've got the same error running the installation script on my hostgator webspace.
After that running install.php WP was installed without putting in database name and database user once more. Then I only had to do all WP settings manually.

Australia FTW!!!!

Yeah i don't think you will have to much luck with your hosting company. As soon as you say anything about the installer they will say that it's the owner of the installer that is responsible for making it work not them.

If any one wants to pm there details i'm more then happy to give it a try.
