Default Not a Clue!!!

Hello,
Well I am hoping someone out there can teach this newbie new tricks. I just watched the first video "Wordpress Installer video" about the installation and I have no clue on how to install this. Needless to say I got a big headache trying to figure it out (Too Much Input). Do I need to go to my tech support for my hosting company to find my ftp host name, the database name and other info.

Man you made this look so easy but I must say to the newbie it is abit daunting as someone once stated. Is all this for the advanced people? I have tried to watch it several times but I just don't understand. Any direction is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Mr. Clueless aka Scott

Hi Scott,

The whole process is not that difficult and you do not need your tech support for that.

Depending on your hosting account, you should be able to get all the info from your cpanel. Does your hosting account support cpanel?

Let say your domain name is www.YourDomain.com then your ftp host would be likely to be ftp.YourDomain.com

Next go to your cpanel. Most likely it is at www.YourDomain.com/cpanel. Log in and follow the steps in the video.

Database name and other info you need are created by you and can be found at the places mentioned in the video.

Don't worry Scott. This stuff is just new to you but they are not really that advanced. Give it a go one more time and see how it goes. Usually, I will follow these videos step by step. Repeating and pausing when necessary. It helps for me.

Hi Scott,
If I understand correctly, you have 2 domains:
1.MyDomain.com
2. TakePicturesLikeAPro.com

Assuming you will be installing your blog to the main domains,
your ftp host and directory of installation should be:
1. ftp.mydomain.com
/public_html/

2. ftp.takepictureslikeapro.com
/public_html/takepictures(or whatever name you have given)/

Hope this helps : }

Hey Scott,

Ftp details, databases and what not are a very important part of life as an Internet Marketer, so lets get you trained up

Now depending how you are setup you should be able to ftp into both domains, and you will have /public_folder/takepictureslikeapro

Am I correct?

This is called having an "add-on domain" within your main account.

In this case lets say you wanted to install to your second domain www.takepictureslikeapro.com

your ftp details would be

ftp.takepictureslikeapro.com

your username and password is the same as your cpanel logins

Your base directory (or installation directory) would be.

/public_html/takepictureslikeapro/ (if thats what your domains folder is called)

Now that would install it directly into your second domains root (root is just a term for the top level of your domain.)

If you wanted to install it into a sub-folder on that second domain.

Then it would be

/public_html/takepictureslikeapro/myfolder/

Now when it comes to the blog url, it would just be

http://www.takepictureslikeapro.com/

or if you used a sub-folder

http://www.takepictureslikeapro.com/myfolder/

Hope that clears that part up a little better.

Talk Soon
Marc
