Angry Wordpress Nickname

This is probably a really dumb question but do I just make up a wordpress nickname and put it in my installer or do i have one somewhere on my cpanel that i am supposed to use, or am i supposed to actually go to wordpress.com and sign up first. i keep getting the error that i haven't installed wp yet. i have checked and checked my setting and i have no spaces, i have gone back over ten times and deleted my database and started from scratch but it is getting rather frustrating because 99% of the time i can't even connect to the ftp server. if anyone has any suggestions i would love to hear them.

Default anything

Hello,
As far as the name goes, you can put anything in there. The XXX guru, etc. I just installed and used the installer twice and it worked perfectly. I am not sure what you are doing wrong. It is hard to say. What exactly does the error say.

Hi steve,
It says:
It doesn't look like you've installed WP yet. Try running install.php.
One of the other members is giving it a look and i don't know if he is having any luck but i will let you know. if you do think of something that would be appreciated as well.

Hi Kim
I noticed that if my password was really long which makes for a strong password, I could not connect. So when I had a shorter password and perhaps leaving out things like the # sign in your password you may have better luck connecting.

Default sounds like

From the error you mention, sounds like the installer did not work correctly. Let me know if you want me to look at it or not.

Thanks again for installing my blog. I made my first post and that went smoothly. Now I of course need more help. How do I change the picture at the top it is actually for selling handbags and not the skin care header. I read on a different thread about going to the ftp client for changing the background color but where and how do I get to the ftp client. I guess thats two questions.

Kim

Hi Kim,

The picture at the top is called the header. It is usaually a .jpg or .gif format. I think the dimensions are 800x150.

You have a header in your niche pack under the graphic folder. If you want to use that header, then you must upload it into the grapic dir on your db. This requires an FTP program. Filezilla is free: FileZilla - The free FTP solution.

Then there is Smart FTP and 100s of others. There is a video for Smart FTP.

Once the new header file is uploaded, the handbag header will go away, just overwrite it.

Default Don't know how to get started

Hi,

I'm from Singapore and I've looked through the Wordpress Installer Video.

I don't really know how to install the Wordpress and I followed exactly and word for word in the video but I could not get it to work.

Can somebody please guide on how to install the Wordpress?

I've submitted the ticket to the plrhosting but i did not get a reply from them.

Do I need to setup a hosting account prior to installing the wordpress?

I'm a total idiot in this area. Need plenty of guidance and step by step to install the wordpress and also blog.

Default hosting?

Hello,
Yes you do need hosting before you can install. You can get it free from plrpro if you want or sign up and buy some hosting from hostgator or others.
